Deric Hill came to Las Vegas in 1977 to establish Holman's of Nevada as a branch of a company out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Holman's initially sold drafting supplies and equipment, HP calculators, construction and surveying instruments, accessories and supplies. In the early 1980s Holman's introduced AutoCad to the Las Vegas Valley and began assisting their client base in making the transition from manual drafting methods to Computer Aided Drafting and Design. In 1989 Deric and his partners purchased the Nevada operation from Mr. Holman. Holman's subsequently transitioned its construction and surveying instrumentation sales and marketing into H&S Surveying & Laser in order to provide a better customer facing identity to that facet of their business. Deric retired in 2016, but has come out of retirement to assist Tommy Mason, a former long time H&S Survey & Laser employee, in establishing and managing Dirtworks Positioning LLC.
